Spotlight Feature - Susan Yankee

We are only 4 days away from Speaking Her Truth: an evening of music by Jessica Rudman including the world premiere of her chamber opera: Marie Curie Learns to Swim. Saturday is not far away and we hope to see you at Christ Church Cathedral's Parish House at 7:30pm in downtown Hartford. Have you already reserved your tickets? Here is what Susan had to say about Opera for the Twenty-Second Century:

There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages.

― Mark Twain

Speaking her Truth and other 21st century compositions can see their reflection in this Mark Twain quote. Each new work is that colored glass...music arranging itself in new patterns, sometimes familiar to the ear and other times making the listener perk up and experience an unfamiliar color combination.
